Bishop Rhoades to Speak at Ancilla College

September 24, 2012

09/25/12 Immigration in the US is a topic that creates debate as well as confusion. The effects of immigration, changing immigration policy and the politics of immigration deserve more than a few minutes of shouting in a television debate.

As part of Ancilla College’s long running Lampen Lecture series Bishop Kevin C. Rhoades will be the speaker at a public presentation of “Catholic Teaching on Immigration.”

“Immigration and immigration reform is one of the most hotly debated and controversial issues in the United States these past several years up until today.  I intend to explain the teaching of the Catholic Church which views this issue with an international perspective and with principles of social doctrine founded in natural law and illumined by the Gospel of Jesus Christ,” Bishop Rhoades said.

“The Church has an obligation to speak on this issue since it is a public policy issue of moral consequence in light of the dignity of the human person and the principle of human solidarity,” the bishop said.

Bishop Rhoades is the first speaker in the 2012-2013 Lampen Lecture Series at Ancilla. This lecture will complement last year’s lecture “The Dream Act and Family Reunification” by Sr. Joellen Tumas, of the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ.

The lecture is set for Tuesday, October 2, 2012, at 7 PM in Cana Hall. All Lampen Lectures are free and open to the public. Ancilla College, located two miles south of US 30 near Plymouth, Indiana, is a sponsored ministry of the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ.
