IMPA and the Town of Argos Work toward the Development of a Solar Park

March 3, 2015

ArgosWaterTowerThe Town of Argos and its wholesale electric power provider, the Indiana Municipal Power Agency (IMPA), are in preliminary discussions to develop a solar park in the community. The IMPA Argos Solar Park, which IMPA will own and operate, is expected to generate slightly less than 750 kilowatts (kW) of electricity on approximately seven acres of land along Linden Road.  Still in the early stages of development, IMPA hopes to energize the solar park in 2015.

“The IMPA Argos Solar Park will further diversify the Agency’s power supply and will continue building upon IMPA’s steady momentum after the completion of its first three solar parks in 2014,” said Raj Rao, President and CEO of IMPA. Today, three megawatts of IMPA’s power supply is generated from solar parks in the IMPA member communities of Frankton, Rensselaer and Richmond. The project to construct a solar park in Argos is part of IMPA’s larger plan to develop a solar park in each of the 60 communities it serves with wholesale electric power.

“IMPA appreciates the confidence placed in us by Argos and the other communities we serve with wholesale electric power in adding this renewable energy source to our generation portfolio,” said Rao. “The addition of more solar parks not only provides an educational impact to IMPA’s member communities throughout the state, but serves to bolster IMPA’s already diverse portfolio, reinforcing the Agency’s goal to provide municipally-owned utilities with a power supply that is low-cost, reliable and environmentally responsible.”

The Indiana Municipal Power Agency is the not-for-profit wholesale power provider to 59 cities and towns across Indiana and one Ohio community who own and operate the municipal electric distribution systems in their communities. IMPA member communities deliver electric service to approximately 330,000 individuals throughout the state.  For more information, visit www.IMPA.com.
