“Ashley’s Army” Raises $3,000 for JDRF

September 21, 2010

The 15th annual JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) Walk to Cure Diabetes was held this past Sunday.  The walk is an effort to raise money and awareness for the disease.  About 2,000 people showed up to Beutter Park in Mishawaka to enjoy the DJ, aerobics warm up, and a beautiful 2 mile river walk.  Following the walk, there were refreshments, pony rides, face painting, a bouncy house, slides, and other fun family and kid activities.

Ashley Combs a student at Plymouth High School has participated in the walk for a couple of years.  She was diagnosed in 2006 and now, each year has a team in the annual walk.  Approximately 90 people showed up to walk for her family team, “Ashley’s Army.”

Ashley and her entire family appreciate the incredible support that everyone has shown throughout this “challenge” that her family has been faced with over the last three years of her diagnosis…as well as so many other families cope with this disease each day.

Her mother, Kelly Gunderson said, “We are confident that our team’s donations collected will reach an excess of $3000.”   She continued by saying, “Many thanks to all of our team sponsors and supporters throughout the community, their generosity has been greatly appreciated!”
