Pork Quality Assurance Certification

The Marshall County Extension Office will host on Tuesday evening, June 29, Pork Quality Assurance Plus Training at the Marshall County Extension Office starting at 6:30 pm.  The program comprises of two main elements – food safety and animal well-being.  Food safety refers to the practices that minimize physical, chemical or biological hazards that might be injurious to consumers.  Animal well-being encompasses producer responsibilities for all aspects of animal well-being, including proper housing, management, nutrition, disease prevention and treatment, responsible care , humane handling and when necessary, humane and timely euthanasia.  Food safety and animal well-being have become concerns for consumers. 


This is being offered to allow area pork producers to become a certified in Pork Quality Assurance Plus to enhance the quality of pork they produce and meet requirements of pork processors.


This program is geared to adults not 4-H youth.  Some pork processors are requiring their suppliers to be certified in Pork Quality Assurance Plus Program to demonstrate they have the knowledge to provide a proper production environment for their swine.   If you would like to attend or have questions about the  program please call the Marshall County Extension Office at (574) 935-8545 or e-mail Robert Yoder, Marshall County Extension Educator, at ryoder@purdue.edu
