The Plymouth Aviation Board was prepared to open bids on Tuesday night for a crack seal repair project for the Plymouth Airport. The only glitch, however, was that there were no bids for the project.
Chris Snyder of Woolpert, Inc., consultants for the board, said, “I reached out to all potential bidders.” He called the lack of bids “unprecedented”. Referring to the changes in temperature as fall approaches, Snyder said, “We are running up a very delicate window.”
Board President Tom Flynn agreed. Flynn said, “We really have to do it before winter.”
Snyder indicated that he will continue to try to find bidder for the project, but suggested that they may have to just patch the cracks if a bidder for sealing is not found.
The board awarded a bid for guttering to the main building on the airport property to Atlas Continuous Gutters & Siding in the amount of $850. Atlas was the only company bidding on the project. Later in the meeting, it was noted that there has been damage to the south side of the building due to the how the water was draining without proper guttering.
Ken Norris/Auto Park was approved to rent a “B” hanger at the airport for $400 per month. The company’s Twin Cessna Seneca has been temporarily housed in the hanger since the beginning of September and Auto Park will pay the entire month’s rental. After the meeting, Norris said they use the aircraft to fly to various automobile auctions usually within a 200 mile radius. The hanger is large enough to accommodate additional aircraft. Norris agreed to consider sharing the space if needed in the future. He said Auto Park will likely have a second aircraft of their own by spring of 2011.
Kevin Morrison, board member, volunteered to draft wordage for surveying potential patrons on the waiting lists for other hangers. Once the wordage is approved, Airport Manager David Latimer will contact each person on the waiting list to establish interest.
A project to enclose a T-hanger is 95 percent completed, according to Lattimer. The board voted unanimously to set the fee for the hanger at the enclosed hanger rate.
Acting on the recommendation of Lattimer, the board approved the hire of a part-time employee for the airport. Zachary Davis will be assuming the duties of the 20-30 hours per week position. Davis is a 1994 graduate of Plymouth High School and spent three years in the National Guard.
