Board of Public Works Opens Quotes and Bids

October 13, 2010

10/14/10 This week the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety opened bids for a new   wastewater sewer televising unit.  Only one bid was received from Brown Equipment Company in Fort Wayne.  The base bid was $84,500 with a couple of options.

Utility Superintendent Donnie Davidson said he had budgeted $90,000 for the equipment.

There was some concern that only one bid was received for the piece of equipment.  Davidson explained that the specialized equipment is only offered by a couple of companies.  The City’s specifications sought out a midrange price which may have limited some bidders.

The single bid was taken under-advisement for review by the superintendent and city engineer.

The Board of Public Works and Safety also opened quotes for a 2011 ¾ ton super-cab pick-up truck for the Plymouth Street Department.  Three quotes were received, two from County Auto and one from Oliver Ford.  Country Auto quoted on a Chevy 2500 HD with trade in for a total of $25,643.16.  Their second quote was for a Dodge Ram 2500 for $23,725.  Oliver Ford’s quote for a Ford F-250 was $24,554. Again the quotes were taken under-advisement.

Quotes were also opened for the crack seal project for various city streets.  The only quote was received from Pavement Solutions, Inc. from Middleton, IN.  Their quotes were on each individual street:

West Harrison $4,395

Markley Drive $6,501

North Street $2,695

Western Avenue $10,679

The quotes will be reviewed by Street Superintendent Jim Marquardt and City Engineer Rick Gaul.  Marquardt did comment that this is the same company that sealed cracks for the city last year.  The Board of Public Works approved awarding the bid pending the positive review by the city superiors.

In other business the board approved the request of Fire Chief Andy Metsker to move firefighter/paramedic McMillen from probationary status.  He also indicated that McMillen will become the new paramedic training instructor, a position the Dave Houghton had held prior to his retirement earlier this year.
