Monday morning just after 7:30 the Argos Fire Department was called to 12630 State Road 10 for a grain bin fire, the Bill Voreis farm. When the call came into the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department it was noted that there were several L.P. tanks and fuel tanks near the grain bins. The farm has a cluster of nearly a dozen grain bins in the center of the farm.
Argos firefighters were on the scene for quite some time and called Plymouth to assist just before 11 a.m.
Fire fighters were prepared to fight the fire but the grain bin was only smoldering. The grain bin was full of 14,000 bushel of dry corn. The farmer was able to save much of the corn by removing it from the bin.
Fire crews waited while the corn was removed.
Plymouth was on the scene until 3:10 and Argos firefighters stayed on even longer. They were eventually called back again and were on the scene at 9 p.m.
No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire was a bearing going out in the grain bin.
