Quotes Opened for Furnace at Street Department

October 30, 2011

10/31/11 The Board of Public Works and Safety held a special meeting Thursday evening at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers of City Hall.  The meeting was called to open quotes for a HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning) Project at the Plymouth Street Department on Western Avenue.

Two companies presented quotes to replace the furnace in the facility and include zoning the two sides of the building with adjustable vents.  There was an alternate bid to relocate it to a mezzanine in the storage room.

Street Superintendent Jim Marquardt explained that when they tried to light the furnace a couple of weeks ago they found major issues. This is the original furnace in the building, about 24 years old.

Jones Heating & Cooling, Electrical & Refrigeration quoted $7,364 to replace the furnace at its current location.  The second bid was from All Seasons Heating and Air.  Their quote was $14,627.95 to replace the furnace and $17,427.95 to relocate the furnace to the storage room.

The Board of Public Works and Safety passed a motion to allow Superintendent Marquardt to review the quotes with the specification writer and the move forward after comparing the two quotes by selecting the lowest bid that met specs.

The project will be funded through the City’s Common Sense Fund for energy projects that are capital improvements.
