Argos Students Swap Books for Summer Reading

May 21, 2012

05/22/12 Argos Elementary students ended their year with a library book swap.  Showing off their newly “swapped” books are Kindergartners Carlie Rex, Trenton Ogle (in front), Kyle Bradley, Giovanni Castano and Lanie Masters.  The Argos PEP Club (Parents for Educational Progress) purchased enough new books for every elementary student to have one and additional used books were brought in from home by students.  The book swap is intended to help keep students reading throughout the summer.  Scientific research indicates that students who read in the summer have more success in school than those who do not.  Summer reading programs and “1,000 Books Before Kindergarten” programs available at area public libraries help children, toddlers and infants develop reading skills.  Parents should ask at their local public libraries for more information.
