Culver Teen After Bullet Explodes in Fire

April 2, 2012

04/03/12 About 5:15 Thursday evening the Marshall County Dispatch Center received a 9-1-1 call about a female who had just suffered what appeared to be a gunshot wound to her neck at 12516 Tamarack Road in Culver.

It appears that a live round of ammunition was in a fire at a nearby residence and the heat from that fire caused the bullet to explode striking 17 year old Andrea L. Bottomley.  She was conscious and breathing, but did have some feeling of numbness.

Plymouth Fire and EMS treated Andrea at the scene and called for MedFlight who transported her to Memorial Hospital in South Bend where she was treated for her injuries and discharged later that night.

County Police Officer Joe Giordano continues to investigate this accident.
