11/02/11 A new clerk for LaPaz was appointed last week to fulfill the position left vacant by former clerk Jane Harris. Susan Albert was appointed during a caucus by Marshall County Democratic Chair, Ryan Ripley, since Precinct Committee members Vicky Harmon and Carol Sumpter were not present prior to the appointment. Sumpter did appear at the caucus, but was unavoidably delayed and was not present until after the appointment was made. The county chair can make an appointment in the absence of precinct committee members.
Harris notified Ripley of her intention to retire in October and subsequently filed her resignation with the Marshall County Clerk’s office.
Albert’s certification was announced at the Marshall County Election Board meeting on November 1.
Anticipating that Albert would be appointed since no other applications for the position were received, Harris had been training Albert to assume the duties.
Albert has had many years of experience in finance including working in the banking industry and as a school treasurer.
