Cannon Serves Internship in Plymouth School Corp.

08/04/11 The Plymouth Schools welcomed Carrie Cannon on July 1 as an intern. Cannon is working on obtaining her PhD fromCapellaUniversityin Education Curriculum and Instructional Specialization.

She completed her undergraduate degree atAndersonUniversity1999 and her Master’s atIndianaWesleyanUniversityin 2006.

Cannon, who graduated from BremenHigh School, said she interviewed with several different school corporations. She said, “I chosePlymouthafter reading of the advancements the corporation has been making in education and technology.”

Her year-long internship will encompass several areas including, but not limited to, reviewing the Indiana Department of Education Common Core standards. Common Core standards are being adopted by not only the state ofIndiana, but by 41 states in provide consistent understanding of what students are expected to learn. Cannon will then help to make sure the curriculum being used at every grade level in thePlymouthsystem is incorporating the standards.

Cannon will also be monitoring and tracking data for professional development Achieve 3000 literacy for grades 6, 7, and 9, and working with principals and teachers. Achieve 3000 uses differentiated instruction to provide help students an individual basis, often using technology. She will also be addressing the needs for the proposed WashingtonAcademythat will use project based learning.

Cannon said, “I have passion for curriculum instruction and hope to add in digital curriculum.”
