Abandon Vehicle Struck at Railroad Crossing

08/05/11 On Wednesday, August 3rd at approximately 3:29 a.m. the Marshall County Police Department received a call from CSX Railroad Company advising of a train versus car collision. 

The collision was reported to have occurred near Miami Trail and US 6.  Upon arriving and further investigating by county officers, emergency personnel discovered that the collision actually occurred at the railroad crossing for Jarrah Road near the intersection with Jude Road. 

Railroad personnel advised that the train was pulling 13 rail cars and was traveling west bond.   The vehicle was sitting on the railroad crossing facing east bound.  The train struck the car’s front passenger side and also advised that it didn’t appear that anyone was in the vehicle at the time it was struck. 

There was also no one in or around the vehicle when the Marshall County Police Officer Ryan Hollopeter conducted the initial investigation.  The incident is still under investigation.
