02/07/14 On Wednesday, February 5th at approximately 1:25 A.M. an Officer with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on US 31 north of 1st Road. As the Officer initiated the traffic stop the vehicle pulled into the driveway of a residence in the 900 block of US 31. During the investigation an active one-pot meth lab was located.
Occupants of the vehicle were identified as 47 year old Robert D Segars of Lakeville the driver and his passenger 24 year old Carmen J Murray of Walkerton.
Through the investigation it was discovered that the vehicle had been stolen from South Bend. Officers applied for and obtained a search warrant for the residence at 954 US 31. During the execution of the search warrant additional methamphetamine “trash labs”, precursors, paraphernalia and under 100 grams of marijuana were located.
Robert Segars was charged with Dealing, Delivering and or Manufacturing Methamphetamine and Receiving Stolen Property. Carmen Murray was charged with Dealing, Delivering and Manufacturing Methamphetamine.
Both Subjects were transported to the Marshall County Jail and held without bond pending the filing of a probable cause affidavit.
A case is being forwarded to the Marshall County Prosecutor’s Office for further charges of the residents.
The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the Indiana State Police and the ISP Clandestine Team and Lyon’s Towing who removal the stolen vehicle.
Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
