12/19/11 The Community Christmas Coalition is hoping that still others will step up to help fill the applications of needy families during the holiday season.
So far, the Coalition has been able to serve over 200 families, but there are still many, many more to fill.
The Coalition was formed by several local organizations and agencies in an effort to reach families or individuals experiencing difficulties and who otherwise might not review assistance for toys/clothes for children and food during the holidays.
The Coalition is made up of representatives from the Marshall County Neighborhood Center, Plymouth Community Schools, Leadership Marshall County, Shop-with-a- Cop, Boy’s and Girls Club and the Triton Christmas Project.
The Community Christmas Coalition has taken in 480 Assistance Applications. Those working to fill the requests have been able to find sponsorships or monetary donations for 200 individuals/families.
The efforts are being coordinated through the Marshall County Neighborhood Center.
Able to assist every family that they identified as needing help last year. Neighborhood Center Director Sara Hill said, “It’s almost impossible for us to shop-even with the 50 volunteers we have shopping-to shop, wrap and deliver presents and food baskets to the remaining families.” She said the greatest need is for individuals, families or organizations to adopt a family.
They are accepting donations of new (wrapped or unwrapped) toys and clothes, as well as, food for meal baskets. Monetary donations will be used to purchase gifts/food for any families who could not be directly sponsored.
