Second Annual Club Fair at CUTPL Was a Success!

January 24, 2014

01/27/14 On Saturday, January 18th, the Culver-Union Township Public Library held their second annual Club Fair. Local clubs, organizations, or groups were invited to come to the library free of charge to set up an informational table and promote their cause. Sister Nancy Raboin, MoonTree Studios Director, told Reference/Adult Services Librarian and Club Fair organizer, Laura Jones, “I think it’s a very worthwhile endeavor by the library to connect the public and each other to various service and non-profit groups.” MoonTree Studios was one of 16 groups in attendance, along with the Center for Culver History Museum, Confiance Dance, Culver EMS, Culver Little League, Culver Youth Soccer, CUTPL Book Clubs, CUTPL Friends of the Library, CUTPL Thursday Tech Time and Computer Classes, Friends of Immigration Reform of Marshall County, Heartland Artists, the Knitting Group, Culver Lions Club, Marshall County 4-H, Marshall County Council on Aging, and Tri Kappa.

The CUTPL Friends of the Library provided cookies and warm drinks as refreshments for those who braved the cold to attend the Club Fair. Additionally, the Friends of the Library held an impromptu used Book Sale in the Carnegie room on the lower level of the library. MoonTree Studios had artist demonstrations going on throughout the day, including knitting and spinning wool. Gregory Waksmulski, Director for the Center for Culver History Museum noted that, “the Museum feels blessed to receive such an outpouring of interest from the community and we can’t wait to work with everyone in the years to come.” Petey Matthews, who has led a knitting group for 12 years, had some words of encouragement to share, “if you want to be creative, come and learn to knit.” She also added, “thank you to the library for the space to knit.” The knitting group meets on Mondays from 10 AM to 12 noon in the small meeting room.

The 2014 Club Fair had a little something for everyone. The library plans to continue holding the Club Fair annually. Interested groups can contact Reference/Adult Services Librarian Laura Jones at ljones@culver.lib.in.us or 574-842-2941.
