Coats Statement on Tragic Storms that Struck Southern Indiana

March 4, 2012

03/05/12 Senator Dan Coats (R-Ind.) Saturday issued the following statement regarding the fatal storms and tornadoes that hit southern Indiana on Friday:

“No matter how much we may prepare, Mother Nature’s unpredictability and harshness delivered a devastating blow to southern Indiana. Marsha and I ask all Americans to keep Hoosiers and our neighbors in their thoughts and prayers as we recover from these tragic storms. We pray especially for the lives loss and the loved ones left behind.

“Hoosiers have proven to be resilient and I am confident our state will rebuild. I am working with Governor Daniels, the administration, FEMA and the Indiana delegation to ensure Hoosiers receive the assistance needed.

“We cannot replace the lives lost from Mother’s Nature’s destruction, but Hoosiers will come together to rebuild one day at a time.”

Senator Coats is the Ranking Member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security, which oversees the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA.) Coats was with Hoosiers in Steuben County at the time of the storm. Information regarding Coats’ plans to visit the impacted counties is forthcoming.
