Plymouth Man and Muncie Man Killed in Tuesday Morning Crash

August 2, 2011

08/03/11 Marshall County Police have released the names of four individuals involved in the crashes on North Michigan Road Tuesday morning.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department responded to an accident with injuries at Michigan Road and 5A Road at 5:37. When officers arrived on the scene they found that two separate accidents have occurred.

A 1990 Honda driven by 21 year old Wesley Collins of North Walnut Street in Plymouth was southbound on Michigan Road and for an unknown reason went left of center and struck a 1992 Chevy S-10.  Collins was killed at the scene.  The S-10 he struck was driven by 49 year old David Nance of Plymouth who was northbound on Michigan Road.  Nance was transported to Memorial Hospital in South Bend.

After the initial impact the Honda came to rest in the southbound lane of Michigan Road.  The Chevy S-10 came to rest at the northeast corner of Michigan Road and 5A Road.

Evidence indicates that a passenger in the Honda, 18 year old Conner McGee of Muncie was able to extricate himself from the wreckage and was standing in the roadway when the second crash happened.   A 1996 Chevy S-10 driven by 19 year old Kyle Johnson of North Liberty was also southbound approaching the intersection with 5A and did not see the Honda from the initial crash.  The S-10 struck the vehicle and McGee who was standing in front of the Honda.  McGee  died at the scen from injuries he sustained.

Kyle Johnson was treated at the scene.

A third passenger in the Honda was flown by Med Flight to Memorial Hospital in South Bend.  His name has not been released at this time.

Marshall County Police and Coroner Bill Cleavenger continue to investigate this incident.
