Comfort Inn Should be Open by Blueberry

January 5, 2011

01/06/10 Construction could resume at the Comfort Inn on North Michigan Street in Plymouth as early as March, according to owner Kamron Mirza. Mirza said completion of the entire project should be in time for the annual Blueberry Festival held over the Labor Day weekend.

Signage in front of the building reads “opening in spring 2010”; however, with 2010 coming and going, many have questioned whether the new hotel property would ever be finished at all.

Mirza said, “When the economy slowed down, financing was hard.” “We have already put $2 million out of pocket into the building, so it will definitely need to get done.” Mirza has now located a new funding source and expects all of the details to be worked out within 30 days.

A building permit was issued in January of 2009 under the name of J P Plymouth, LLC.

Maust Architectural Services of South Bend drew up all of the building plans and specifications and have been overseeing the construction.

Once finished, the hotel will have 60 sleeping rooms. The first floor will encompass

14,630 square feet and feature an indoor swimming pool on the east side. The second floor will add an additional 13,000 square feet.

Mirza said they have been doing a little work all along, but will be in full-swing hopefully by March. Maust indicated that the inside construction still to be done such as electrical work is perfect for winter work by contractors.
