06/26/12 Last week the Marshall County Commissioners passed a resolution adopting Annex G to the Marshall County Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan. The annex pertains to mass casualties.
EMA Director Clyde Avery brought to light a new requirement for the Emergency Management sub grant performance grant for the 50% match of salaries and benefits from the state. The State is now requiring counties to share their complete GIS information with them.
Avery said, “Only a couple counties statewide have not provided this requested date.” He did confirm that Marshall County had been “overlooked” when the state sent out notices. The state needs the county to expedite the information by the end of this month if they anticipate receiving the salary and benefit reimbursement by the end of the year.
There is some concern by the County Commissioners that sharing the data which is worth $350,000 is worth the $19,000 matching grant.
Commissioner Jack Roose said, “I’m not inclined to personally pass on $350,000 of work the county has done for the good of the citizens.” He continued, “What’s next?”
Due to the fact that County Commissioner Kevin Overmyer was not at the meeting last week the other two commissioners decided to table any action until he could be present.
In other business the commissioner approved Veteran’s Service Officer Josh Wakeland’s request to become a notary. Wakeland explained that veterans are asked to submit original documents when applying for benefits and many of them are leery to give-up those documents. Becoming a notary will allow Wakeland to notarize a copy of an original document for submission. Estimated cost was $50 for a period of 8 to 10 years.
