Parkhurst Dancing With the Stars for the Neighborhood Center

February 3, 2015

Dancing With the Stars_logoMonica Parkhurst will be participating in this year’s Marshall County Neighborhood Center fundraiser “Dancing With the Stars”.  The event takes place at the Swan Lake Resort this Saturday, February 7.

For those not familiar with the event, it consists of several people from the community (“Stars”) being matched up with a dance instructor (“Pros”) to create and perform a dance for the audience.  It is a competition in that votes are cast for the performing couples through a donation for each vote, instead of being judged on the quality of the dance steps and performance like they are on the popular television show.  Whichever couple or performance group brings in the most donation dollars is declared the winner.

A lifelong resident of Plymouth, Monica and her husband Brad have two sons, Evan (19) and Alex (14). She works as a pharmacist at Wal-Mart, and is active in the community in other endeavors as well.  Monica said, “I am partaking in this event because I know of the great need in our community for which the Neighborhood Center provides, and I also have had the pleasure of seeing what wonderful things can be achieved by the members of our community when they all get together toward a worthy cause, such as this one.  I only hope I can do my part by inspiring people to vote on my behalf to benefit the Neighborhood Center.”

Monica’s professional dance partner is Mike Anderson from Elkhart.  He is very involved this year with two “Stars” with whom he is choreographing and dancing.  Parkhurst said, “He has been a great help to me and shown a lot of patience.”    They will be performing a Night Club Two Step on Saturday night, with the hope of entertaining a sold out crowd.  Monica said, “We have practiced numerous times and worked very hard, and Mike has worked his magic to train me so I hopefully won’t fall or get tangled up.”

Since tickets to the event are sold out, the only way to show support for the Neighborhood Center now is to go to on the website www.events.org/neighborhoodcenter and cast your vote via donation, at $20 each or give your vote money to the dancer of your choice or drop off your donation at the Neighborhood Center and vote for your favorite couple.

Parkhurst said, “Remember to put my name, Monica Parkhurst, in the memo so your vote will be tallied on my ballot.”  She closed by saying,  “I have seen a lot of support both personally and for other dancers already, but please keep those votes coming for this great cause!  We appreciate everyone’s support, for us, for the Neighborhood Center, and for the hard work being put in by everyone involved in making this event so successful!”
