10/23/13 The Marshall County Local Coordinating Committee will be hosting David Parnell, recovering meth addict tonight.
David spent twenty-three years abusing drugs, seven years of which he was addicted to methamphetamine. Methamphetamine is highly addictive stimulant, which severely affects the brain. Under its influence, he even attempted suicide by shooting himself. He shot himself under the chin with an SKS assault rifle, blowing his face apart. Though he survived, he sustained severe injuries.
Each county has its own Local Coordinating Council (LCC), which is the planning and coordinating body for addressing alcohol and other drug problems. Membership of an LCC includes volunteers from a variety of organizations including education, treatment, social services, and local police. The Marshall County LCC organization is open to anyone interested in identifying and addressing the alcohol, drug and tobacco issues facing our county.
The LCC has arranged for Parnell to appear at the five local high schools in Marshall County; Plymouth, Argos, Bremen, Culver and LaVille during the Red Ribbon Week (Oct. 20-31). He will be at a total of 14 schools in four counties to inform students of the dangers of drugs. David’s presentation is both profound and graphic about his struggle with drugs and in particular methamphetamine.
There will be a special public presentation at Christo’s Banquet Center on Lincolnway East tonight Wednesday, October 23rd at 6:30 p.m. The public is urged to attend.
The Local Coordinating Committee estimates that David Parnell will be speaking to 7,000 students and adults during his ten days in the north central part of Indiana.
