10/04/12 A free workshop on the new immigration reform known as “Deferred Action” will take place this Saturday, October 6th at the Plymouth High School.
Who qualifies for this?
Anyone who entered the U.S. before their 16th birthday and was under the age of 31 as of June 15, 2012.
You must be 15 years old or older unless you have been deported before or are in deportation proceedings.
You can not have been convicted of a felony, one significant misdemeanor or three insignificant misdemeanors of which minor traffic issues will not count towards these misdemeanors.
You must have been physically present in the U.S. since June 15, 2007 although brief departures may not necessarily affect your case.
You must also be in school, have graduated high school, be registered for GED classes, have obtained a GED, or have been honorably discharged from the U.S. Military.
If you qualify you will need to bring several documents for verification including proof of identity such as a birth certificate, passport, or matricual or cedula translated to English.
Proof of continued residency in the U.S. for the past five years such as school records, diplomas, hospital records, employer records, or tax records.
You must also provide proof that you do not have a disqualifying conviction or pose a danger to the public security such as court records or arrest records.
You will have the opportunity to individually meet with a lawyer who will briefly review your records.
The New Immigration Reform Workshop known as “Deferred Action” will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Plymouth High School this Saturday. Participants should enter through the front door, door #1.
