03/21/13 Citizens of Plymouth will see River Park Square in downtown Plymouth begin to take shape in the next couple of months. The pre-bid meeting for the project was held on Wednesday morning and the Redevelopment Commission will conduct a special meeting on April 2nd to open bids for the project.
Tuesday evening the Plymouth Redevelopment Commission ratified the approval of Jackson Services to complete the demolition project for the park at the low bid price of $42,000. The demolition includes the three building: one on East LaPorte Street, one on Water Street and one on Garro Street.
It was reported by City Attorney Sean Surrisi that Jackson Services placed a fence around the first demo project on Saturday and demolition started on Monday. The two story structure on LaPorte Street was at one time Sandwich Island. This property also has a fuel tank buried underground. It was estimated that there were 1,000 gallons in the tank but when it was pumped two weeks ago it only had 450 gallons so the cost estimate will be reduced. Excavation of the tank will be completed by Jackson Services as part of their contract next week. An environmental contractor has been hired for $4,163 to check for contamination after the tank is removed.
The contract indicates demolition of all three buildings will be complete in 60 days and Surrisi estimated they were about 10 days into the contract during the meeting Tuesday.
