Center Township Warning Sirens Installed

November 27, 2012

11/28/12 Plymouth residents in Center Township could soon have advance warnings of tornadoes heading to the area. According to Center Township Trustee Doug Kucera, tornado sirens have been placed at the Plymouth Speedway just south of town and across from the mobile home park on Hawthorne Rd in Inwood, located on the east side of the township. Kucera said, “We had to get permission from the owners of both properties to put the sirens on their properties.”

Kucera said there are a few details yet to be worked out before the sirens will be up and running. He said they are working with REMC to run the power to the units before installing radios.

When the final work is completed, Kucera said an announcement will be made prior to the testing phase. He said, “The sirens are rotating, meaning they can be heard in four directions.”

Kucera said it is still unclear what agency will activate the sirens in the case of an emergency. He said he will be discussing the matter with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department to determine the process.
