M.C. Drug-Free Committee Announces Grant Applications

   09/20/12 The Marshall County Drug-Free Committee announces that it is seeking grant proposals for the 2012 grant cycle.  The Committee awards up to $39,000 in grant funds for the following categories: (1) Prevention and or Education, (2) Treatment and (3) Criminal justice and or law enforcement.

Grant applications must choose to address one or more of the following Problem Statements from the County Comprehensive Plan.  The four problems to be addressed during the next three years are; (1) Prescription drug use/misuse indicates an emerging threat with youth in Marshall County. (2) Marshall County continues to rank in the “Top Ten” counties in Indiana for methamphetamine production and methamphetamine use and abuse. (3) There is a high incidence of alcohol use and abuse in Marshall County and (4) there is a high incident of marijuana use and abuse in Marshall County.

Funds for these Drug-Free Grants are derived from fines and fees paid by offenders who have been charged with alcohol or drug infractions.  Money collected by Marshall County from the alcohol counter measure fee and the drug interdiction fee remain in the county (75%) intended for community funding of proposed grants.

Grant applications will become available on Tuesday, September 25th, at the regularly scheduled Marshall County Drug-Free meeting held at 9:15 a.m. in Room 203 of the Marshall County Building.  A portion of the meeting will address the 2012 Grant Application.  Officers and members of the Drug-Free Committee will be willing to aid any agency or organization in helping to complete their 2013 Grant Application for submission for consideration of available grant funds.
