Two Marshall County men were arrested Saturday afternoon and lodged in the Marshall County Jail with a charge of rape.
The charges stem from an incident on July 9th of this year. About 3:45 in the afternoon the victim reported to Bourbon Police that she had been raped early that morning outside the home at 408 South Harris Street in Bourbon.
During an interview with police the victim said she had been at the Journey’s End Bar and two men in the bar were flirting with her. The bartender told her the guy with two black eyes and missing teeth was Dustin Hasko. About 2 a.m. she exited through the backdoor of the bar and the two men followed insisting they give her a ride to her friend’s home. She and the two men rode a moped to the Harris Street address. As she attempted to enter the home the grabbed her by both arms and pushed her to the ground pulled at her clothes to expose her body. The victim told Officer Mathew Haskins the both men forced themselves on her and said, “they would snap her neck” if she said anything. When the guys were finished the victim was able to get away and into the house.
Officer Haskins made contact with the manager and bartender at Journey’s End and learned that Casey Whitehurst was the other suspect. On July 11th, in a photo line-up the victim identified the second suspect.
On July 15th Officer Haskins interviewed Dustin Hasko. He claimed the victim asked for a ride. He then said the female and Whitehurst started making out so he walked away but could hear them having sex. He denied any physical contact with the victim. Hasko also refused to take a polygraph due to a heart murmur and being bi-polar.
On July 16th the Bourbon Officer met with Casey Whitehurst. He too said the victim stated she needed a ride home. Whitehurst said the victim and Hasko were kissing and the next thing he knew she was kissing him and asking for oral sex. Whitehurst did admit to having unprotected sex with the victim in the driveway.
Arrest warrants were issued for both 25 year old Dustin Hasko of Tippecanoe and 25 year old Casey Whitehurst of Bourbon. They were arrested by Marshall County Police Officers at 12:30 Saturday, August 2nd and booked into the Marshall County Jail on $100,005 cash bonds each.
Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is merely an allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
