Walkerton Teen Severly Injured in Moped Crash

  07/09/13 A 16 year old boy was seriously injured in a moped accident Wednesday, July 3rd about 6 p.m.

Officer Joe Giordano with the Sheriff’s Department responded to the 2500 block of Quince Road to investigate the two vehicle crash.  His report states that a 2001 Toyota driven by 29 year old Erin Van-Houten of Plymouth was northbound on Quince Road. 

Dylan Hattery pulled out of the residence at 2530 Quince Road on a Yamaha moped in front of the Toyota. 

Witnesses say that Erin Van-Houten swerved and tried to avoid the moped but struck the vehicle.  Hattery impacted the windshield of the Toyota and the moped went flying. 

Hattery sustained severe injuries to the head and leg and was transported by MedFlight to Memorial Hospital in South Bend.

Van-Houten was not injured in the crash.

Officer Giordano was assisted at the scene by LaPaz and Polk Police Fire and EMS and deputies with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department.
