First Day to File for 2012 Election is Wednesday

January 9, 2012

01/10/11 The political season heats up this week with the first day to file for the 2012 election on Wednesday, January 11th.  The filing period continues until noon on February 10th.   County seats up for election include:  Judge of Superior Court I, County Treasurer, County Coroner, County Surveyor, Commissioner of District 2, Commissioner of District 3, and the three County Council at Large seats.

The republicans have a number of office holders who will seeking reelection including:   Judge Rob Bowen, Treasurer Deborah VanDeMark, Coroner Bill Cleavenger, Surveyor Larry Fisher, and County Commissioner in District 3 Kevin Overmyer. Only one of the County Council members is seeking reelection, Rex Gilliland.  The other two Ward Byers who is completing his first term at the end of 2012 will not run again and Ralph Booker said because of pending legislation on conflict of interest by being a department head and holding an elected office he will not run.  Also not running is Greg Compton who was selected in a caucus to fill the vacancy of Tom Chamberlin when he was elected Sheriff.

The Democrats met last Saturday and discussed the up-coming election.  They may have a few candidates file but no one was totally committed at this time.
