July 23, 2015

Encore_Babylon SneakersEncore Performing Arts’ Music in the Park closes out the series at the Young Amphitheater with Babylon Sneakers this Friday, July 24. The group based in South Bend is an eight-piece Steely Dan tribute band.

The group is comprised of members Mark Gamble, Lena Kelly, James Kerby, Geoff Lesar, Jamie Pawelski, Sam Que, Dawn Burns Robinson and Zack Spaulding. Check out their music on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Babylon-Sneakers) for more live action.

YoungCurrently interpreting the Dan’s obscurities and hits from 1972-1980, Babylon Sneakers accurately pays homage to one of jazz-rock’s most popular groups. Steely Dan is still touring and has sold more than 40 million albums worldwide. From their website they are described as helping “define the soundtrack of the ‘70s”. Who can forget “Rockin’ in the Years”, “Rikki Don’t Lose That Number” and “Babylon Sisters”?

Rusty Nixon of WTCA 1050 AM and 106.1 FM will be on hand to introduce the group. While being interviewed on the station last week, Geoff Lesar revealed a personal musical background connection. His grandfather, Clark Weber, was a popular DJ on WLS in Chicago in the 1960s.

All Music in the Park concerts are in beautiful Centennial Park in the Young Amphitheater. Bring a lawn chair, your favorite beverage and a picnic to enjoy this special music in a delightful setting. If you don’t want to cook, Delta Theta Tau will once again be offering refreshments.

Gates open at 6:00 with the performance begin at 7:30. All tickets are $10 for adults with pre-sale available for $8.00. Children and students are free. Pre-sale tickets are available at the Encore Office, ASK. for Flowers, Wagoner’s Music Shop, Martin’s Supermarket, Pilot News, Plymouth Chamber of Commerce, Plymouth Park and Recreation Department and WTCA.
