Plymouth Community Youth Orchestra Fundraiser

September 14, 2010

Two local businesses are teaming up to help with the funding for field trips and operating costs for the Plymouth Community Youth Orchestra.

Brian VanDuyne said he heard of the need when he attended a meeting of the organization that his son Chase has joined.

VanDuyne said he and Jim Vinall of  Opie’s, The Office, and The Alley have set aside the evening of September 18 as PCYO night.

VanDuyne and his staff from Fernbaugh’s Jewelers will be the servers for the event. A portion of the evening’s receipts and all the tips will be donated to PCYO .

VanDuyne said this marks the second time that Firebaugh’s has joined with Opie’s for fundraiser. They were successful in raising $1000 for Heminger House earlier this year.

Orchestra students will be providing the entertainment for the event.

The local group was formed in 2003, according to Mary Jo Finley. Finley was one of the members of the String Orchestra Advocacy Group that began meeting in October of 2001. The group was instrumental in writing a grant that was awarded to the Plymouth Schools from the Indiana Arts Commission as start-up funding.

VanDuyne said patrons may utilize any of the three areas in the City Center during the event that will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on September 18.
