01/13/12 The Marshall County Clerk’s Office was a busy place Wednesday morning as several Marshall County Republicans took advantage of the first day to fill their candidacy. Many of those filing are seeking re-election to their office.
William “Bill” Cleavenger was the first to file his paper work with the Clerk of the Courts. Bill is seeking his second term as Coroner. Deborah VanDeMark is also seeking another four years at the County Treasurer and so is Rex Gilliland who serves the citizens of Marshall County as an At-Large member of the County Council. Larry Fisher who was first elected in 1984 is seeking his 8th term as County Surveyor.
Marshall County Commissioner Kevin Overmyer was elected by caucus in 1999 serving one and a half years prior to being elected to his first four year term. He will be seeking his fourth term as Commissioner.
Republicans are assured a May Primary with the filing by Leslie Trump who is seeking the position of Marshall County Coroner.
A familiar name too many, Jon VanVactor, and former Sheriff of Marshall County has decided to throw his hat in the ring again. This time he is seeking one of the open At-Large seats on the County Council. Another familiar name, Steve Harper, a local appraiser and former member of the County Election Board is seeking the other open At-Large Council seat.
Deborah Griewank showed her interest in the Commissioner’s seat when a caucus was held to fill the vacancy left when Tom Chamberlin resigned after being elected to as Sheriff of Marshall County. Deb has also served on the County Plan Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals.
Another name that many will recognize is Francis Ellert. The Coke man, Francis ran a good, hard campaign against Nancy Dembowski in 2010 for District 17 House of Representative and lost by a bit more than 200 votes. Redistricting has taken Nancy out of the 17th district so Ellert is seeking to fill that vacancy. He did a courtesy filing in Marshall County on Wednesday and will do his official one in Indy in a few days.
Wednesday, former State Representative Jackie Walorski filed her candidacy to represent Indiana’s 2nd District in the United States Congress with the Indiana Secretary of State.
“Our country is heading in the wrong direction, said Walorski. “I am running for Congress to get our economy back on track so businesses can create jobs, and to get government spending under control- balancing the budget.”
