Bourbon Man Seriously Injured in Motorcycle Crash

10/04/11 County police investigate a motorcycle accident Sunday afternoon.

On Sunday, October 2nd at 3:41p.m. Marshall County Dispatch Center was called in reference to a two vehicle crash at the Bourbon Truck Stop, the intersection of US 30 and Beech Road.  When Officer Nick Laffoon arrived on scene he learned that Katlyn Watson 17, of Bourbon was driving a 2005 Ford Freestyle south on Beech Road and Robert Firestone 35, of Bourbon was driving a 2000 Honda Shadow Motorcycle west on US 30.

Ms. Watson state that she had already crossed over US 30 West, and was struck by the motorcycle in the median while they were waiting to cross over on US 30.  A witness at the scene confirmed Watson’s information. 

Mr. Firestone was unable to speak at the scene of the collision. 

Evidence at the scene showed that the motorcycle was traveling west on US 30 in the passing lane.  It also showed that Watson failed to yield to Mr. Firestone and crossed in front of him, with the point of impact being in the passing lane of US 30 West.  Measurements were also taken at the scene. 

Ms. Watson refused treatment and Mr. Firestone was flown by helicopter to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne, and was admitted into ICU for injuries to his head and pelvis. 

The Marshall County Police was also assisted by Bourbon Fire Department, Bourbon EMS and Bourbon Police.
