Plymouth Water Department Warns of Frozen Pipes

November 30, 2010

12/01/10 Since winter weather is upon us the Plymouth Water Department wants to alert homeowners and business owners of possible frozen pipes.  In extreme cold weather pipes that are not well insulated could freeze.  If your home does not have the best insulation you should open the cabinet doors under the sinks to allow warmer air into those areas.  If property owners have vacant properties they should have the heat set to at least 45 degrees to avoid frozen pipes.  You should also check periodically through our cold months if the water is not used regularly to see if heat tapes and such are working properly.

Another way to protect pipes is to have the service disconnected and plumbing drained.  Please remember that the customer is responsible for any meter damage and it is up to them to protect it.

Anyone with questions should contact the Plymouth Water Department. 936-2543
