Plymouth School Board Appoints Funston to Assis. Superintendent & Riise as Director of Quality Programs

  04/04/12 The Plymouth School Board unanimously voted to appoint Daniel Funston to the position of Assistant Superintendent and Michele Riise as the Director of Quality Programs following the end of the current school year.

Funston is currently the principal of Lincoln Junior High and Riise is the principal of Washington Elementary School.

Funston joined the Plymouth Schools after serving for two years as the principal of John Glenn High School and the assistant principal at the same school for two years.

He holds a Master’s Degree, completed in 2002. in School Administration from Indiana University Purdue University Fort Wayne and a Bachelor’s Degree from Tristate University in Social Studies. From 1998-2003 he taught at Norwell High School in Ossian, Indiana.

Funston will replace the current Assistant Superintendent Rodger Smith. Earlier this year, Smith announced his intention to retire at the end of the school year.

Riise earned an EDs in 2002 in Educational Leadership from Purdue University.

She obtained a Masters Degree in 1997 in Education and a Bachelor’s Degree in 1984 in Elementary Education with a kindergarten endorsement, both from Purdue University.

In December, 2011 completed the requirements as Director of Exceptional Learners.

Prior to coming to Plymouth in May of 2004, Riise was as assistant principal from 1997-2000 and principal from 2001-2004 at Eastern Pulaski Elementary School. She also served as the Title I Director throughout her time there.

According to Superintendent Daniel Tyree, Riise will be responsible for administrating grants for special education, Title I, ESL (English as a Second Language), Title III, High Ability and the Migrant program. Additional duties will include overseeing the curriculum for kindergarten through grade 4.
