The newest giant blueberry was just planted last week in River Park Square.
Artists Olivia Coulter, Katie Bowling and Rachel Rettig representing the Plymouth High School Art Club and Plymouth Community School Corporation painted the abstract blueberry titled ‘World of Opportunity’. This blueberry was placed at the northwest side of
River Park Square right across from the United Way and Marshall County Community Foundation blueberry on the entry sidewalk.
Blueberry chairman, Shelley Heiden said, “More blueberries will be placed in the Plymouth area before Labor Day, just in time for the Marshall County Blueberry Festival crowds.”
The Plymouth Dairy Queen has not yet debuted their decorative blueberry and the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center has order two, one will be placed on the hospital campus and the second will be in front of their clinic downtown on East Jefferson Street. Their artist will be Jeff Stillson. Tri Kappa will have a blueberry painted by Jennifer Calhoun and their placement has not been determined yet.
Heiden said, “There is great collaboration going on…people and businesses coming together to purchase blueberries.”
The Remembrance Centre, Johnson Danielson Funeral Home, Heiden Creative, Shirley Casbon and Claudia Button have joined together to purchased a giant blueberry that will be a Tribute to Veterans, Active Soldiers and First Responders and placed at River Park Square as well.
Six downtown businesses in the 200 block of North Michigan Street agreed to work together to purchase a giant blueberry and collaborate on the design that will be painted by Laura Balla. This blueberry will be placed in front 214 North Michigan Street. The businesses working together for this goal are Yoder’s Sporting Center, Pilot News, Fernbaugh’s Diamonds and Fine Jewelers, Robertson Cook Agency Inc, King’s Jewelers and Allison Kara State Farm.
Heiden said, “There is continued interest in the dimensional blueberries.” She continued, “So many other communities regionally and nationally are placing ‘art on their streets’ with dimensional sculptures, it is exciting that Plymouth is adding color and dimension to its sidewalks and parks.” Heiden closed by saying, “We will be ready to add another bunch of blueberries later this year for spring placement.
