04/14/11 A request to Plymouth officials to erect a crossing sign on South Michigan Road was tabled during the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety meetings on April 11. Local resident Kent Borggren of 10673 Michigan Road asked for signage to designate a duck and goose crossing in the area that lies several yards south of the cemetery entrance.
According to Borggren, the fowls travel across the road several times each day as they go from pond to pond.
The matter was tabled until more information could be obtained about who has control of the road and other considerations. In many instances, the city would only take authority over one-half of a road when it boarders properties that are in the city on one side and the country one another. Hutchings said the city has water lines on the west side of the road and sewer lines on the east side and, therefore, they control of the right-of-way.
On Wednesday, Hutchings said they have learned that signs are available for purchase for duck and geese crossings.
During the meetings on Monday night, there were comments concerning the safety of vehicle traffic on the road since some motorists may be caught off guard when some slow down for the fowls and others stop altogether.
A specific date was not set for the matter to be put on a future agenda for consideration.
