Officer Matt Brown with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department investigated a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle on US 6 Saturday night just after 10.

62 year old Hal Patterson of Walkerton was traveling west on US 6 in a 2009 Ford F-150.  Patterson told Officer Brown that he was west of Union Road and as he crested a small grade in the roadway he observed a pedestrian walking east on the north side of the roadway.  Patterson said he swerved into the eastbound lane and the pedestrian who was walking fell into the roadway.

The pedestrian, 37 year old Eric Lawton of South Bend fell and struck the passenger’s side mirror causing a piece to break off.

Mr. Patterson stopped his truck and checked on Lawton who was lying on the north side of the roadway.  When Lawton heard the sirens he took off running toward the east.

Walkerton Police were able to located Mr. Lawton.   He was transported to the hospital by Walkerton EMS for a broken right arm and possible broken ribs.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department was assisted on the scene by Walkerton EMS and Police and North Liberty Police.
