Two Arrested on Drug Charges

   02/15/12 On Friday, February10th at approximately 11:15 a.m. Patrolman Jonathan Bryant of the Marshall County Police Department conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of 8th Road and the West County Line Road.

Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer observed the driver, Steven Haut 22, of Valparaiso putting what was believed to be a controlled substance into his mouth to prevent the officer from finding it.  During the subsequent investigation multiple items connected with the manufacturing of methamphetamine were located.   Both Haut and his passenger Matthew Hamilton 23, of Knox were placed under arrest and transported to the Marshall County Jail.    Haut was booked with the charges of an illegal drug lab, dumping a controlled substance, possession of chemical reagents/precursors, operating a vehicle while intoxicated; endangering a person, and operating a vehicle with a scheduled I, II controlled substance.  Haut was given a $1,000.00 cash bond and a probable cause was read on February 10th at 10:00pm.

Hamilton was booked in with the charges of an illegal drug lab, dumping controlled substance waste, and possession of chemical reagents or precursors to manufacture.  His bond was set at $1000.00 cash.

Both Haut and Hamilton are scheduled to appear in Marshall County Superior Court #2 on March 6th at 8:30am.
