10/04/13 Saturday, September 28th, the “Pride of Plymouth” marching band competed in the annual Penn High School marching band invitational. Plymouth was one of nine bands competing in Class B competition.
“We knew going into this event that it was going to be a tough competition for us,” said Plymouth band director Bryan Ames. “This contest hosted several great bands that annually advance to the state finals competition. We anticipated the amount of improvement we were going to have to show for this event by asking our student leadership team to step up their expectations and provide additional practice time for their peers.” In the field of competitors were three bands that advanced to the 2012 ISSMA State Finals along with numerous other competitors.
The Pride of Plymouth gave a spectacular performance and placed 2nd out of the nine competing schools. “When they said we had placed over some of the best bands in the state our kids were over-whelmed and proud. It was a great accomplishment and the results were directly related to the kid’s hard work and dedication in the weeks leading into the competition.”
This Saturday, the Plymouth Music Boosters will host schools from across Northern Indiana for the fifteen annual “Harvest Festival of Bands” marching band competition. The music boosters have been working diligently for three months to plan for this event. “This is a huge event that takes up the entire campus to operate. It takes nearly a hundred student and parent volunteers to manage and organize such a large event.” The Plymouth band will perform in exhibition at the end of the competition allowing local fans and community members an opportunity to view the band’s performance. The competition begins at 5:00 p.m. and Plymouth (the final performance) will perform at 8:19 p.m. Admission to the competition is $6.00 and tickets are only sold at the gate (no pre-sale tickets).
Good luck to the Pride of Plymouth as they continue their season working towards the ISSMA Regional contest on October 19th at Lafayette Jefferson High School. Only 10 bands will advance to the ISSMA Semi-State contest from this event.
