Influenza Report for Indiana

 01/03/13 According to the Indiana Department of Health’s weekly influenza report, Indiana showed five influenza deaths for the 2012-2013 season.  Two of the deaths are in the 5-18 years-of-age group while three of the deaths are in the 65-plus years-of-age group.

During the week of December 20th to the 27th 51.8% of the specimens tested in Indiana were positive for influenza.  77 were positive for influenza A H3 and three were positive for the 2009 N1H1 while two were for influenza B.   Other viruses circulating identified since October 1st of 2012 were Adenovirus, Enterovirus NOS, Parainfluenza 1, 2 and 3, and Respiratory Syncytial Virus commonly known as RSV.

The Indiana State Department of Health wants citizens to be award that the state is now reporting high and widespread influenza-like illness.  They encourage citizens to remember that it’s not too late to get vaccinated.  Vaccination is the single most important step you can take to protect yourself and others against infection.
