Traffic stop results in a drug arrest and operating while intoxicated.
On Friday, September 3rd at 10:20 PM County Patrolman Les McFarland conducted a traffic stop on State Road 331 at State Road 10 for a traffic violation. During the traffic stop Patrolman McFarland detected an odor associated with marijuana. During the investigation, a substance believed to be marijuana and a crystal meth pipe was recovered from18 year old Taran J. Holderman. The Indiana Implied Consent was read to Mr. Holderman and he agreed to take a chemical test. He was transported to St. Joseph Regional Hospital for a chemical test and was later arrested for possession of marijuana and operating while intoxicated and under the influence of a controlled substance. Holderman was booked into the Marshall County Jail on a $1,000 bond.
On Friday, September 3rd at 11:20 AM Patrolman Rick Kanarr responded to Michigan Road south of 5th Road in reference to a two vehicle accident. Upon arriving on the scene the driver of a 2000 Ford Windstar, 33 year old Denny E. Humes of Plymouth advised that he was following behind 69 year old Mary A. Wicks of Plymouth the driver of a 1995 Pontiac Grand Am. Both drivers were northbound on Michigan Road. Wicks slowed down due to the heavily congested area because of numerous people parked alongside of the road for a yard sale. Humes failed to notice that Wicks was slowing down and ran into the back of the vehicle. Wicks was attended to by the Union-North EMS for a complaint of back pain but refused transport.
On Tuesday, September 7th at 4:30 PM Patrolman Rick Kanarr responded to the area of 12th and Juniper Road for a two vehicle accident. Upon arriving on the scene the driver of the 1988 Ford F-350, 28 year old Jeffery R. Stetler Jr. advised that he was traveling northbound on Juniper Road approaching 12th Road when he began to apply his brakes and noticed that the vehicle wasn’t stopping like it should. He also stated that he continued to press on the break peddle harder but was unable to get his vehicle stopped before it went out into the intersection in front of a 1999 Ford Taurus driven by 34 year old Joseph A. Nelson of Bourbon. Nelson, seeing that was Stetler unable to get stopped slammed on his brakes and tried to swerve to avoid the collision, but was unsuccessful.
Joseph Nelson complained of head pain and his two minor children complained of knee pain. All were checked at the scene by the EMS and signed refusals for treatment. The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, Plymouth EMS and Fire Department assisted at the scene.
