WALORSKI SUPPORTS “REQUIRE A PLAN” ACT

February 7, 2013

02/08/13 On the House floor Wednesday, Congresswoman Jackie Walorski (IN-02) voted in favor of the “Require a PLAN” Act, H.R. 444.  This bill would require the White House to produce a balanced budget or submit a supplemental plan for a balanced budget by April 1, 2013.

“Today’s passing vote reinforces our continued commitment toward restoring fiscal sanity in Washington,” said Walorski, a member of the House Budget Committee.  “There is a troubling disconnect between wasteful spending in Washington and the burdensome effect it has on American families.  It is time for lawmakers to practice some Hoosier common sense at the federal level to balance the budget and ensure success for future generations.”

The White House has failed to submit a budget to Congress by the statutory deadline in four out of the last five years.  During this Administration our national debt has increased by nearly $6 trillion, contributing to a crippling debt that must be shouldered by future generations.  Instead of pursuing a deficit reduction plan, taxpayer dollars continue to go toward wasteful Washington spending.

Earlier this month, Walorski co-sponsored legislation to freeze pay for the Vice President, Cabinet Secretaries, Members of Congress, and federal employees, reversing an executive order signed by the President in December.  She also supported the “No Budget, No Pay” Act to withhold congressional salaries until the Senate passes a budget.
