Marshall County Economic Development Director Announces Departure

December 17, 2012

12/18/12  Marshall County Economic Development Corporation’s Executive Director, Jennifer Laurent, has announced her resignation.   Laurent joined the staff of MCEDC in February, 2010 and was appointed as Executive Director in October, 2010 after serving as Interim Director for five months.

She leaves the organization with a successful track record of major business expansion projects, the creation of a professional Business Retention visitation program, and new initiatives aimed to increase Marshall County’s development preparedness and attraction marketing position.

“I care deeply about Marshall County, and it has been a privilege to champion its growth in this role,” Laurent said.

Laurent cites personal and professional opportunities that she plans to pursue in choosing to leave the organization’s leadership position at this time.

“I am most proud of the relationships I was able to build with local business, civic and education leaders to promote the County and address workforce needs, which is the biggest near-term challenge heard from our advanced manufacturing sectors,” Laurent said.  “I hope that the industry and education partnerships – as well as other pragmatic, creative ideas to ensure next-generation competitiveness of Marshall County as a place to prosper – will continue to be supported by the community.”

Laurent will remain in the position until the end of the year.  The MCEDC Board of Directors will launch a search process to identify potential candidates to take over the role.

In the interim, MCEDC Economic Development Specialist Derek Spier will oversee economic development responsibilities and ensure continuity in ongoing commitments.

“Jennifer was effective in setting goals and advancing MCEDC’s initiatives with great dedication,” said Kevin Berger, Board Chairman. “The void she leaves will be difficult to fill, but the Board will turn to selecting a strong new leader for MCEDC.  We accept Jennifer’s resignation with sincere appreciation for her accomplishments with us, and wish her all future success.”
