Walkerton Man Arrested for Possession and OWI

12/17/10 On Wednesday, December 15th at approximately 2:45 PM the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department received a 9-1-1 call in reference to a two vehicle accident at US 6 and Pine Road within the Marshall County Line. The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department along with the LaPaz Police Department responded to the scene.

During the investigation it was found that an unknown vehicle was turning northbound on Pine Road from US 6 when a vehicle driven by 37 year old John Edward Michalski of Walkerton  had attempted to pass the unknown vehicle on a double yellow line while on US 6.  The two vehicles collided.
During the traffic investigation, County Officer Les McFarland detect an odor of burnt marijuana on John E. Michalski.  Officer McFarland obtained consent to search Michalski’s vehicle.  He recovered a small amount of marijuana and paraphernalia.  While speaking with Mr. Michalski he admitted to having more marijuana at his residence located at 16227 2B Road in Walkerton.   Once they arrived at Michalski’s residence he turned over the remaining marijuana. He also consented to a chemical test and was transported to Saint Joseph Regional Hospital.  He tested positive for marijuana and opiates.  He was then arrested for possession of marijuana and operating a vehicle with a controlled substance and was transported to the Marshall County Jail.  Michalski was booked in on a $1,000 bond and was released at 10:20 PM that evening after posting bond.
