02/06/13 With the Keith Bope property on Plymouth Goshen Trail up for sale by owner the City Park Board is exploring the possibility of acquiring the acreage.
Monday night Park Board President Dave Morrow said, “It would be a natural direction for us to expand if we ever decided to.”
Park Superintended Mike Hite said the property is 4.8 acres the lies directly to the east of the entrance off of Plymouth Goshen Trail. The “L” shaped property follows the fence line on the east side and then down toward the Hoosier Old Wheels Shelter and behind the house to the east. He described the property as the neighbor who parks cars on his land during the Blueberry Festival. The sale is for land only. The house is on a separate parcel and owned by someone else.
Morrow said, “We’ve started to look into whether it would be feasible for us to purchase the property at this time.” They are currently awaiting two appraisals of the property. By state statue the city can only pay the average of the two appraisals. Once in hand the Park Board could meet in executive session to evaluate the property and the appraisals although any decisions would have to be made in a public meeting.
