Most television viewers have seen at least part of a CSI or Law and Order episode.  These shows seemed to have spurred a new interest in law enforcement and forensics.  The Indiana State Police is giving young people an up close look at law enforcement through its youth camp program which began in 1970.

The three-day Respect for Law Camp is an exciting look at law enforcement for students entering the 5th and 6th grades.  Police officers staff the co-ed camps and each program includes well-balanced meals and comfortable sleeping facilities.  Daily programs include spectacular demonstrations by Emergency Response Teams, Bomb Squads, Underwater Search and Rescue Teams and police dogs. Campers participate in recreational activities, make new friends and go home with a new respect for themselves and others.  Locally this camp is held at the University of Notre Dame which offers a unique glimpse of campus life.  The camp will run from July 15 through July 17 and the cost is $120.

Scholarships are available to all camps offered by the Indiana State Police.  The camps are made possible through the support of the Indiana Troopers Association, with additional support from the Association of Indiana Troopers, Indiana District Optimists, Indiana State Police Alliance, Jaycees, Indiana Kiwanis, and Lions Clubs of Indiana.

Interested individuals are urged to submit their application within the next two weeks.  For more information about Indiana State Police Youth Services Camps, please call The Indiana Trooper’s Association at (800) 671-9851, the Youth Education and Historical Center at (317) 899-8293, contact your nearest Indiana State Police Post, or find us on the web at www.in.gov/isp
