Marshall County Police investigated a couple of traffic accidents over the holiday weekend.
On Saturday, May 29th at 3:20 a.m. Officer Nick Laffoon responded to Queen Road north of 7th Road for the report of a woman who had been struck by a vehicle. While officers were responding to the area it was reported that the vehicle involved has left the area traveling north on Queen Road.
Officer Laffoon located the suspect vehicle as it turned onto 6th Road and conducted a traffic stop. The driver, 21 year old Timothy M. McIntire of Watseka, IL was detained.
During the investigation it was learned that the injured person, 19 year old Danielle M. Alvey of Kankakee, IL had been a passenger in the vehicle. The driver and passenger became involved in an argument in the area of Queen and 7th Road. The driver allegedly struck the female as she was walking along the side of the road. Ms. Alvey sustained minor injuries.
McIntire was arrested and lodged in the Marshall County Jail for operating while intoxicated, operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol content of .15 or above and leaving the scene. Formal charges are pending.
On Sunday, May 30th at approximately 7:30 a.m. Patrolman Joe Giordano investigated a single vehicle accident on Beech Road south of Plymouth Goshen Trail. A moped driven by 16 year old Glen Dale Farmwald of Nappanee was northbound on Beech Road and ran off the road to the right and into a culvert. He was ejected from the moped and the vehicle traveled on into a fence.
Farmwald was transported to Bremen Community Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries. Patrolman Giordano stated that alcohol appeared to be a factor in the crash.
Sunday evening about 5:25 the Sheriff’s Department received a call in reference to a vehicle accident at Underwood and 4B Roads. Officer Les McFarland along with the Polk Fire Department and Walkerton EMS responded to the scene.
During the investigation it was revealed that Joseph K. Rayfield lost control of his vehicle, went off the roadway hitting a NIPSCO utility pole guide wire and a small tree. Rayfield was not injured but was believed to be driving while intoxicated.
Joseph Rayfield was taken to the Marshall County Sheriff’s where a chemical test was completed. He tested .12 and was booked into the Jail for operating while intoxicated.
