Heminger House Shelter Receives Proceeds from Mayor’s Ball

January 25, 2011

01/26/11 Monday afternoon Plymouth Mayor Mark Senter presented Annie Wojcik, Executive Director of the Heminger House Women and Children’s Shelter with a check.  The presentation represents the proceeds from the Mayor’s Ball held November 22nd at Christo’s Banquet Center.  The “Unforgettable” evening included a fabulous meal including a number of delicious desserts to choose from, a cash bar, dancing and wonderful music by Dan Heath and the Paradise Band from Fort Wayne.

This was Mayor Senter’s third Mayor’s Ball.  In 2008 Hospice and the Neighborhood Center shared the proceeds while in 2009 the Neighborhood Center along with Care and Share shared the funds raised.  Proceeds from the 2010 affair were approximately $3,000.

Annie Wojcik said the funds would be used for operating expenses.  She continued by saying, “Funds are getting real low right now so this is a huge blessing.”

The mission statement for the Shelter says:  “Heminger House is committed to the elimination of domestic violence and  protection of victims of domestic abuse by providing a safe shelter to victims and families; educating, empowering and directing victims to relevant resources; advocating for improvement in law enforcement by addressing public policy and allocation of resources; improving societal intolerance of domestic violence through public awareness and education; and referring abusers to reputable, comprehensive services, while holding them accountable for their actions.”

The 2011 Mayor’s Ball is scheduled for Saturday, November 19th at Christo’s Banquet Center.  Mayor Mark will announce the beneficiary of this year’s event closer to it.
