M.C. Reading Council Announces 2011-2012 Schedule

September 27, 2011

09/28/11 The Marshall County Reading Council has set its agenda for the 2011-2012 school year.  The first meeting will be October 8th, 2011, 10:00 AM, at Barnes and Noble Bookstore on Grape Road in Mishawaka.  New and “trendy” books for preschool through high school will be featured and a percentage of all purchases made at the meeting will help benefit the Reading Council’s Books for Babies project.  Parents and other interested persons are welcome to attend.  Refreshments will be served.

The second event will be the Young Authors’ Conference/Week during the weeks of April 9-20th.   Featured author will be Buck Wilder (Tim Smith) who writes about adventures in the “great outdoors.”  [Note to editor:  We have permission to use this photo of Buck Wilde which is attached]  Some of his books include Buck Wilder’s Small Fry Fishing guide: A Complete Introduction to the World of Fishing for Small Fry of all Ages and Buck Wilder’s Animal Wisdom.  This year the author will personally visit every school in the Reading Council.

The final meeting of the year will be the annual spring banquet on April 12th at 6 PM at the Pretty Lake Methodist Church.  The speaker will be Brooke Busse who will talk on “Project Based Learning.”  The Reading Council will also award its annual Celebrate Literacy to a group or individual who makes a significant contribution to literacy in Marshall County. The Plymouth High School Speech and Drama team will also make a presentation.

The Reading Council’s membership drive is going on now.  Annual dues are $10.00 and membership brochures may be obtained from the individuals below or at the area public libraries.  Parents and other interested individuals are invited to join.
